This free crochet pattern is a quick an easy project that is perfect for holiday, wedding and housewarming gifts. You can make one in each holiday to keep your kitchen festive and clean throughout the year. It’s also economical because you can use left overs of washable worsted weight yarns and one purchased hand towel makes two of these!

Supplies:                                          

Decorative hand towel (makes 2)

1 skein Red Heart Super Saver in coordinating color (or any machine washable worsted weight yarn)

1” coordinating button per towel

Size I/9/5.5mm Crochet Hook

Yarn Darning Needle (sharp point)

Fabric Scissors

Fabric Pen or Pencil

Ruler or Measuring Tape

Preparing the towel:

  1. Using fabric scissors, cut hand towel in half across the width.
  2. Working along cut edge of one towel half, measure and mark dots with fabric pen at ½ inch intervals about ¾ inch down from raw edge. (Sample had 42 dots which created 41 stitches)
  3. Using yarn and darning needle, with wrong side facing and working left to right, hand sew along raw edge using the blanket stitch. Fasten off. Ends will be woven into crochet stitches later.

Instructions:

Note: Stitch counts are based on sample in photos. As towel sizes may vary, stitch counts may also slightly vary.

Row 1– With right side facing, join to top of first blanket stitch with a dc. Dc in top of each blanket stitch across to end. Ch 3. Turn. (41 dc)

Rows 2 through 6- Dc in each dc across to end. Ch 3. Turn. (41 dc)

Row 7– *Skip next dc, dc in next dc, rep from * across, ending with a dc in last dc. Ch 3. Turn. (21 dc)

Row 8– Rep row 7. (11 dc)

Row 9– *Skip next dc, dc in next dc, rep from * across, ending with a dc in last dc. Ch 1. Turn. (6 sc)

Row 10– Sc in each dc across to end. Ch 1. Turn.

Row 11 through 20– Sc in each sc across to end. Ch 1. Turn.

Row 21– Sc in first and second sc, skip next 2 sc, ch 2, sc in next and last sc. Ch 1. Turn.

Row 22– Sc in each sc and ch across to end. Ch 1. Turn.

Row 21– Sc in each sc across to end. Ch 1. Turn.

Row 22– Sc in each sc across to end. Fasten off. (6 dc)

Finishing:

With right side facing, sew button in center of Row 14. Weave in all ends. Hang your new towel and enjoy!
